Sesamoiditis is inflammation of the sesamoid bones, which are two small bones located beneath the big toe joint. these bones help absorb pressure and support movement, but they can become irritated due to repetitive impact, excessive pressure, or biomechanical imbalances. sesamoiditis is common in runners, dancers, and athletes who place repeated stress on the forefoot.
Symptoms include pain under the big toe joint, swelling, and discomfort when pushing off the foot while walking or running. if left untreated, sesamoiditis can lead to chronic pain and difficulties with movement.
At The Foot Room, we assess sesamoiditis through our biomechanical pathway, using advanced gait analysis to identify contributing factors. treatment may include offloading techniques, footwear modifications, orthotics to redistribute pressure, strengthening exercises, and temporary strapping to reduce pain and inflammation. our aim is to help you recover fully and prevent further irritation of the sesamoid bones.
