Patellar Tendonitis

Patellar tendonitis, also known as jumper’s knee, is an overuse injury that causes pain and inflammation in the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap to the shinbone. It is commonly seen in athletes who participate in jumping, running, and high-impact sports, as repetitive stress can lead to small tears in the tendon, causing pain and stiffness. Contributing factors include poor biomechanics, muscle imbalances, improper footwear, and sudden increases in training intensity.

Symptoms typically include pain just below the kneecap, stiffness, and discomfort during activities like jumping, squatting, or going up and down stairs. If left untreated, patellar tendonitis can worsen over time, leading to chronic pain and difficulty with movement.

At The Foot Room, we assess and treat patellar tendonitis through our biomechanical pathway, using advanced gait analysis to identify the underlying causes of excessive tendon strain. treatment may include custom orthotics, strengthening and stretching exercises, offloading techniques, footwear recommendations, and rehabilitation strategies to reduce pain, promote healing, and prevent further injury. Our goal is to help you regain full function and get back to your sport pain-free.
