Paediatric Flat Foot

Paediatric flat foot is a condition where the arches of the feet appear flattened, causing the entire sole of the foot to come into contact with the ground. In some children, this is a normal part of development and resolves as they grow, but in others, the lack of arch support can lead to pain, instability, and difficulties with walking or running.

While some children experience no symptoms, others may complain of foot, ankle, knee, or even hip pain, as flat feet can alter the way they move. It can also lead to fatigue, poor balance, clumsiness, or excessive wear on shoes. In more severe cases, untreated flat feet can contribute to long-term biomechanical issues affecting the legs and spine.

At The Foot Room, we assess paediatric flat foot through our children’s biomechanical pathway, using advanced gait analysis to evaluate foot function and movement. Treatment may include custom orthotics for support, strength and flexibility exercises, footwear advice, and gait retraining to help improve posture, stability, and overall comfort. Our goal is to provide the right level of support to keep your child moving pain-free and confidently.
