Club foot (congenital talipes equinovarus)

Club foot is a congenital condition where one or both feet are twisted inward and downward, affecting a child’s ability to stand and walk properly. This occurs due to abnormal development of the muscles, tendons, and bones in the foot and ankle before birth. Early medical intervention, often involving casting, bracing, or in some cases, surgery, is essential to correct the foot position and support normal development.

Even after initial treatment, children with club foot may experience stiffness, muscle weakness, foot pain, or difficulty with balance and mobility as they grow. In some cases, residual biomechanical issues can lead to abnormal gait patterns, uneven pressure distribution, and discomfort during physical activities.

At The Foot Room, we support children with a history of club foot through our children’s biomechanical pathway, using advanced gait analysis to monitor movement and identify any ongoing issues. Treatment may include custom orthotics to improve foot alignment, strengthening and mobility exercises, footwear advice, and referrals for further specialist input if needed. Our goal is to help children with club foot achieve optimal function, mobility, and comfort as they grow and stay active.
