Shin splints, or medial tibial stress syndrome, is a common cause of pain along the shinbone (tibia) in active children, especially those involved in running, jumping, or high-impact sports. It occurs due to repetitive stress on the shinbone and surrounding muscles, often caused by poor foot biomechanics, improper footwear, muscle imbalances, or a sudden increase in activity levels.
Children with shin splints may experience aching or sharp pain along the shins, tenderness to touch, and discomfort that worsens during exercise. If left untreated, the condition can progress, leading to reduced sports performance, difficulty staying active, and even stress fractures.
At The Foot Room, we assess shin splints through our children’s biomechanical pathway, using advanced gait analysis to identify any underlying movement issues contributing to the pain. Treatment may include custom orthotics, strength and flexibility exercises, footwear advice, activity modifications, and rehabilitation strategies to reduce stress on the shins and promote healthy movement. Our goal is to help your child recover, stay active, and prevent future injuries.
