Hypermobility in Children

Hypermobility in children occurs when the joints move beyond the normal range of motion due to increased ligament laxity. Many children are naturally more flexible, but for some, hypermobility can lead to joint pain, muscle fatigue, poor coordination, and difficulties with activities that require strength and stability. In some cases, it may also contribute to frequent ankle sprains, flat feet, knee pain, and postural issues.

Children with hypermobility may struggle with balance, endurance, and sports performance as their muscles have to work harder to stabilise their joints. They may also experience growing pains, clumsiness, or difficulties with prolonged standing and walking.

At The Foot Room, we assess hypermobility through our children’s biomechanical pathway, using advanced gait analysis to understand how their joints and muscles function during movement. Treatment may include strength and stability exercises, custom orthotics for additional support, footwear advice, and movement retraining to help improve joint control and reduce discomfort. Our goal is to support your child’s mobility, keeping them active and confident in their movement.
